While Real Madrid fought Osasuna to maintain the leadership (partly for his life), could Manchester City protect something against Newcastle. Or at least rotate more – Pep Guardiola did that with six changes in his starting eleven, whereas Carlo Ancelotti only changed three positions. And with the Citizens that had a positive effect, Winterneu access Omar Marmoush did not only come to his first goal in the light blue jersey on Saturday afternoon, but also to his first hat trick.

In minutes 19, 24 and 33, the Egyptian ensured that City did not have to wiggle too much against the recently strong Newcastle. Ilkay Gündogan, who prepared the 2-0, was one of the starting eleven changes, as did Phil Foden, Nico González, Abdukodir Khusanov and Rico Lewis. On the other hand, Ruben Dias, Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva only stayed on the bench, whereas Manuel Akanji, Nathan Aké and Jack Grialish were missing. While Akanji will surely miss the second leg on Wednesday (9 p.m.), Aké and Geralish could also be missing.

While Carlo Ancelotti will probably have three returnees in the squad (Antonio Rüdiger should start, David Alaba and Lucas Vázquez at least sit on the bench), Pep Guardiola will have to think of one or the other. Nevertheless, the Catalane can look forward to a relaxed Champions League general rehearsal, thanks to the City in the Premier League in fourth place and in touch with the Liverpool FC: Mancity has 44 points after 25 match days, Liverpool 57 after 24.
