Their quick intervention was critical in preventing a repeat of last year’s incident, where both players were ejected after a similar clash. Despite the physicality of the moment, the officials opted to penalize both DeRozan and Brooks with double technical fouls. The refs spared them from ejection and allowed them to remain in the game.

DeRozan playfully remarked on his teammate’s shooting at the post-game press conference.

“I was just waiting. It took long enough. You know, I kept telling him the whole game to shoot it, and that’s the outcome, you go 16 from 19,” DeRozan said.
