The first stage of the centenary of the Cycling Tour to Andalusia 2025 passed through Malaga territory on February 19. The day began in Torrox and ended in the Cueva de Nerja, after a 162.6 kilometers route that took the runners from the Malaga coast to the heart of the axarchy.

The Belgian Maxim Van Gils, from the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe teamhe was proclaimed winner of the first stage of the Cycling Tour to Andalusia-Ruta del Sol. The stage, of “classical” type profile, presented a land without truce with ups and downs.
The platoon faced the ascents of the viewpoint of the Axarquía, El Alto del Zurrón, El Alto de Periana, El Alto de Canillas and El Alto de Frigiliana, the latter located 14.5 kilometers of the goal.

Van Gils, who had already shone in the test in 2024, once again demonstrated his quality by imposing himself on a tight sprint. With a time of 4 hours, 13 minutes and 39 seconds, he surpassed his compatriot Tim Wellens and French Pavel Sivakov, both of the UAE Team Emirates, to keep the victory.
