São Paulo, Mar (EFE) .- The president of Palmeiras, Leila Pereira, described on Monday as “ridiculous” the fine of 50,000 dollars that the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) imposed on Cerro Porteño for racist acts of their fans against the players of the Brazilian club during the meeting of the Copa Libertadores Sub-20.
And he advanced in an interview with the Cazétv streaming channel that directed a letter to FIFA asking for his intervention.
“Due to delays at the start of the matches there is a fine of $ 100,000. For flares, there are $ 78,000. Then see how Conmebol is about this crime of racism. It seemed shameful. So much so that we have already sent a letter to FIFA asking for its intervention, ”Pereira confirmed.
In addition, he said that the note sent to FIFA is signed by the main Brazilian teams of First and Second Division.
“It is a general shock of all Brazilian clubs. The vast majority of teams suffer racism in matches in South America, ”said the leader, who repeated that Palmeiras will reach“ until the last instance ”.
“The Palmeiras will be hard. As cannot be resolved in Conmebol, we will try to solve it in FIFA, ”he said.
This Sunday, the Brazilian Soccer Confederation (CBF) disclosed a note in which it expresses its “total outrage” with the measure imposed by the organization in charge of the Copa Libertadores.
“The decision does not fight with the necessary rigor the racial discrimination that occurred but, unfortunately, it encourages the practice of new criminal acts given the ineffectiveness of the applied sanctions -especially a repeat club -,” said the CBF in a statement disclosed after the decision of the Conmebol disciplinary commission.
The reaction of Brazilian striker Luighi Hanri, who appeared crying before the television cameras after the match in which Palmeiras beat the Paraguayan team 0-3, generated the repudiation of different sectors, even that of the president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who sympathized with the player and asked to stop “the hatred disguised as rivalry”.
