[Trending News] Shoats-Led Saints Cruise Past Purple Eagles to Start Weekend Homestand

The Siena Men’s Basketball team has had some up-and-down play as of recent but headed into Friday night, their eyes were set on a very favorable weekend homestand. The Saints were set to host Niagara and Canisius, two teams at the bottom of the barrel in the MAAC.

Friday night, Niagara was up first and this was pure domination from the jump. Siena would us an extended 29-5 run in the first half to put up 53 and lead 53-28 at the break.

Justice Shoats was the conductor of the offense. The junior guard could get whatever he wanted from all over the floor and fed his teammates as well, finishing with 31 points and 7 rebounds. Reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week Gavin Doty poured in 12 points with 10 boards and fresh off missing the past eight games due to injury, big man Peter Carey came back to form impacting the game from all over the floor.

Siena cruised to the win 94-60, their largest margin of victory in the past decade. With this win, the Saints improve to (13-14) overall and (8-8) in conference play.

[This was] probably one of our most complete performances I think this season. The guy to my left here, Justice, was outstanding tonight in the first half, completely dominated the game. I think we’re trending that way. I like where we’re at mentally, I really like where we are at physically right now getting back to form. We’ve got to continue to string performances together and play unselfish, physical basketball. -Gerry McNamara (Head Coach, Siena Men’s Basketball)

This group is gaining confidence, health, and playing some of their best ball at the right time. Sunday’s matchup with (2-24) Canisius will tip-off from inside the MVP Arena at 2:00 p.m. A win would all but solidify Siena into the upcoming MAAC Tournament.
