PROVO, Utah (KUTV) — The Provo Airport is getting ready for even more growth as Breeze Airways announced the addition of new flights, which means more growth to the already busy runway.
For many families, the Provo Airport has been a hidden gem.
“That’s been our ease of access to help us get out there a couple times a year,” said Mitch Murphy.
He and his family travel frequently.
“Depends on the time of year but sometimes two to three times a month,” he said.
His family has traveled to Disneyland numerous times.
“I remember when we first started pulling in, in just the parking lot alone, you could park pretty close. You were always on pavement, and when we were there last week, I’m out on gravel. Like triple the distance of what it used to,” Murphy said.
In a recent meeting at the legislature, Provo Airport Director Brian Torgersen spoke about the need for a planned expansion.

“We are up against a ceiling we can’t break through because of space,” he said.
Utah County recently funded millions of dollars from their tourism fund to add gates and a space for customs and international flights to the Provo airport. Local leaders said they’ve had support for an expansion.
Isaac Paxman, deputy mayor of Provo, said, “It’s been a phenomenal thing to see the partnership, unprecedented local support, again the county coming in with $76 million of their own.”
For Murphy, he feels like officials have been trying to keep up with the travel demand.
“Yeah, I think you can definitely tell they want to,” he said. “I think they recognize the impact and the desire people have to travel.”
The new flights, including routes to Phoenix and San Bernardino, are already attracting attention. Nonstop flights to Phoenix have been increased from twice weekly service to five times per week beginning April 8.
Breeze Airways is offering one-way fares starting at just $39.
