State College, PA – A fast-moving snow squall is expected to create dangerous travel conditions in southwestern Cambria County and northern Somerset County until 12:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in State College, PA.

At 11:38 a.m., radar indicated an intense snow squall stretching from Belsano to Perryopolis, moving southeast at 30 mph. The squall is expected to bring sudden whiteout conditions, gusty winds over 35 mph, and a rapid flash freeze on roadways, creating hazardous driving conditions.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike is likely to be significantly affected, particularly between mile markers 100 and 115. Other impacted areas include Johnstown, Central City, Flight 93 National Memorial, and several smaller communities in the region.

The NWS warns that roads, bridges, and overpasses may quickly become coated in black ice, making them extremely slick and dangerous. Motorists are advised to slow down, maintain extra distance between vehicles, and be prepared for a sudden loss of traction.

Snow squalls are known for their rapid onset and extreme conditions, often leading to major travel disruptions. Drivers are urged to avoid travel if possible during the warning period and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions.
