[Trending News] Paul Merson now predicts how Wolves will cope without Matheus Cunha in outrageous claim

As soon as Matheus Cunha lost his head against Bournemouth, Wolves fans knew their season was on the line at that exact moment.

Cunha was shown a red card for lashing out at Milos Kerkez as Wolves ended up losing on penalties in the FA Cup fifth round.

It was a moment of madness from the Brazilian, who demonstrated a weak mentality for the second time this season, after being shown a red card against Ipswich Town for his altercation with a security guard.

The punishment on that occasion was a two-match ban for Cunha and an £80,000 fine, while this latest incident could see his initial three-game ban extended by the FA.

While the 25-year-old is set to miss important games against Everton, Southampton and West Ham, at the very least, Cunha’s actions are already a concern for interested clubs as well as former Arsenal forward Paul Merson.

Paul Merson predicts Wolves to be relegated after Matheus Cunha’s ban

Much like Mohamed Salah is to Liverpool or Erling Haaland is to Manchester City, Cunha is to Wolves. He’s the talisman that can win a game on his own in one special moment.

Last weekend, the Brazilian’s thunderbolt got his side back on level terms before ruining a stellar performance with a moment of head loss.

Worryingly, Cunha’s 17 goal involvements in the league this term account for 47% of the team’s total tally, with the Old Gold only scoring 37.

It’s a statistic that will leave supporters fearing the worst and questioning who can step up in his absence, with Merson expressing a similar fear.

In his column for Sportskeeda, he’s predicted Wolves will lose their next four games and suffer relegation from the Premier League.

“I can’t believe what I saw with Matheus Cunha. He’s just ruined Wolves’ chance of avoiding relegation,” Merson wrote.

“The games he’s going to miss now, all of them were winnable fixtures if he were part of it. Cunha could have definitely made a difference and I don’t see Wolves winning any of the next four games without him! He has basically sold Wolves up the river with that rash behaviour which led to the red card.”

Merson predicts Wolves vs Everton

It’s outrageous to suggest that Wolves will lose each of their next four games when two of the fixtures – no disrespect – are against Southampton and Ipswich.

Surely, the Old Gold will take some points from those games, even without Cunha, to extend their cushion on the bottom three.

As suggested by his previous comments, Merson has predicted Everton to secure a 2-1 win over Wolves on Saturday night while sending a warning to the clubs interested in Cunha.

“I’m going to back Everton to win here because Wolves are missing Cunha. All the big clubs that wanted to sign Cunha will now be looking at his disciplinary record before launching a transfer move for him.

“It has now happened more than once this season and shows a pattern. If you join a big club, there is a lot more pressure and you don’t see players there acting like that.”
