Northern California forecast: Tuesday storm winding down; more rain, snow Thursday

MUCH. AND WE WANT TO TURN NOW TO METEOROLOGIST HEATHER WALDMAN, WHO HAS BEEN TRACKING THE CONDITIONS. SO AS WE CAN SEE IN THE LIVE SHOT THERE, THE RAIN IN THAT AREA AT LEAST HAS REALLY SETTLED DOWN FOR THE NIGHT, RIGHT? YEAH. THE RAIN HAS BEEN DONE IN THE VALLEY FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS, BUT AS WE SEE EVERY TIME WE GET A GOOD RAIN, IT JUST TAKES A COUPLE OF HOURS FOR ALL OF THAT RUNOFF TO COLLECT IN OUR WATERWAYS. SO CREEKS ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO RISE. THEY’RE NOT GOING TO RISE ALL THAT MUCH MORE COMPARED TO WHAT WE’RE SEEING RIGHT NOW. AND TOMORROW, A NICE LONG DAY FOR THINGS TO KIND OF DRY OUT FOR A LITTLE BIT, BUT STILL WATCHING SOME SOAKING RAIN IN THE FOOTHILLS TO THE SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 50. ALSO SOME GOOD SNOW UP ABOVE 6000FT IN THE SIERRA. THAT IS GOING TO MAKE FOR A SLOW START FOR ANYBODY THAT’S TRYING TO GET OVER THE SUMMITS FIRST THING TOMORROW MORNING, BUT IT IS GOING TO BE AN EASIER DAY COMPARED TO TODAY. IT’S ALSO GOING TO BE A COOLER START. I WANT TO SHOW YOU OUR MORNING TEMPERATURES TOMORROW. THE LAST FEW MORNINGS THE VALLEY HAS STARTED IN THE 50S. YEAH, IT’S BEEN DAMP, BUT IT’S BEEN MILD. SO TOMORROW WITH A CLEAR SKY, NUMBERS DROPPING INTO THE MID TO UPPER 30S AGAIN, I DON’T THINK WE’RE GOING TO SEE ANY AREAS OF FROST. THERE WILL STILL BE JUST ENOUGH OF A BREEZE, BUT IT IS GOING TO BE A DAY TO GRAB THE HEAVIER JACKET. NO NEED FOR THE RAIN JACKET OR THE UMBRELLA THOUGH. LET’S TALK ABOUT OUR NEXT SYSTEM COMING IN THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY. OUR SECOND STORM OF THE WEEK IS GOING TO HAVE LESS RAIN, LESS WIND, SO LESS IMPACT FOR THE VALLEY AND FOR THE FOOTHILLS. BUT FOR THE SIERRA, THIS IS GOING TO BE A BIG SNOW MAKER. WE’RE TALKING SNOW STARTING LATE THURSDAY MORNING, LASTING THROUGH MIDDAY ON FRIDAY. SO A GOOD 24 HOURS OF SNOW. THE SNOW LEVEL IS GOING TO BOUNCE AROUND. IT WILL START OUT AT ABOUT 4500FT. SO RELATIVELY LOW COMPARED TO THE PAST COUPLE OF SYSTEMS THAT HAVE COME THROUGH. IT WILL EVENTUALLY RISE UP TO ABOUT 7000FT. THE PASSES COULD SEE 2 TO 3FT OF SNOW BETWEEN THURSDAY, THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY. THAT’S GOING TO BE SOME TREACHEROUS TRAVEL BETWEEN THE SNOW AND THE WIND. THE RAIN IN THE VALLEY AGAIN, NOT AS IMPACTFUL AS WHAT WE SAW TODAY. THERE MAY BE SOME STREETS THAT BECAUSE THEY PONDED TODAY AND WE’VE GOT ONLY 24 HOURS IN BETWEEN, WE MAY SEE SOME MINOR PONDING BY THE END OF THE DAY ON THURSDAY, BUT MOST PLACES SHOULD BE JUST FINE. AND AGAIN, WIND NOT AS BIG OF AN IMPACT THERE. I WANT TO TAKE YOU THROUGH FUTURECAST HERE. THIS IS 10:00 ON THURSDAY MORNING. NOTICE THE SHOWERS ARE JUST STARTING TO MOVE INTO THE VALLEY, SO THE MORNING COMMUTE ON THURSDAY LOOKS DRY. IT’S THE EVENING COMMUTE THAT WILL BE WET AND IN BETWEEN. IF YOU’RE GOING TO GO OUT FOR YOUR LUNCH HOUR, THAT’S GOING TO BE WET AS WELL. NOTICE THE SNOW GOING STEADILY HERE THROUGH MID AFTERNOON. THAT’S GOING TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. SNOW LEVEL GOES UP, WE STAY SHOWERY IN THE VALLEY, IN THE FOOTHILLS ALL THE WAY THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT. FRIDAY MORNING A COUPLE OF SHOWERS EARLY. I THINK IF YOU GOT OUTDOOR PLANS ON FRIDAY YOU GOT A LOT OF DRY TIME. JUST A SHOWER OR TWO. BUT NOTICE HOW THE SNOW JUST KEEPS GOING IN THE MOUNTAINS, AND THAT’S GOING TO BE SOME WIND BLOWN SNOW AT TIMES AS WELL. SO TRAVEL IN THE SIERRA. NOT A GOOD IDEA. THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY AGAIN OVER 7000FT 2 TO 3FT OF SNOW. THE RESORTS ARE GOING TO LOVE THAT. IT’S GOING TO BE GREAT FOR THE SNOW. PACK 12 TO 18IN OF SNOW DOWN TO 6000FT. SO SPOTS LIKE KINGVALE 5000FT UP TO A FOOT OF SNOW AND PLACES AT 4000FT. POLLOCK PINES FRESH POND COULD PICK UP AN INCH OR T
