BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – A Dedham man appeared in court Monday after being arrested for a shooting in Bangor last year that he said was self-defense.

Bangor Police say 48-year-old Zachary Fossett is facing multiple charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault, and elevated aggravated assault in connection with the shooting on the UMA-Bangor campus last February.

While negotiating bail, more details in the matter were revealed.

His defense supported Fossett’s self-defense claim stating Fossett was not the aggressor in the matter after having his vehicle rammed into and hit with a baseball bat by the person he later shot.

The state said it could understand the argument if Fossett hadn’t shot the aggressor seven times leaving the victim seriously injured.

Fossett is being held on $10,000 bail.
