BANGOR, Maine (WGME) — A Maine man has been arrested in connection with a 2024 shooting on the University of Maine at Augusta’s Bangor campus.

On Feb. 10, 2024, the Bangor Police Department says 48-year-old Zachary Fossett of Dedham called police shortly before midnight to report he had just shot someone in a parking lot on UMA’s Bangor campus.

When officers arrived, police say they found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and they were taken to a local hospital.

Fossett claimed at the time that the shooting was in self-defense after he was attacked.

Following an investigation, police say Fossett was arrested on Hildreth Street in Bangor on Friday and charged with attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, and aggravated assault.

Fossett is being held at Penobscot County Jail.
