John Lithgow is the new Dumbledore of HBO Harry Potter series

John Lithgow, the veteran American actor, confirmed firsthand that he will play Albus Dumbledore on HBO's long-awaited HBO Harry Potter series. During an exclusive interview with Screenrant to promote his new project, “The Rule of Jenny Penn,” Lithgow revealed that he agreed to embody the iconic director of Hogwarts, a role that was previously immortalized by the deceased Michael Gambon and Richard Harris.

“Well, it was a total surprise for me. I received the phone call during the Sundance festival, where I was promoting another movie, and it was not an easy decision because this will define me in the last chapter of my life, fear. But I am very enthusiastic. There are wonderful people to turn their attention to Harry Potter. That's why it's been such a difficult decision. Lithgow's choice represents a significant change in approaching the new series.
