On February 4, World Cancer Day is commemorated, a date to reflect on a disease that has accompanied humanity since ancient times. Egyptian records of more than 4,000 years ago they already described tumors. For centuries, cancer was … An indecipherable enigma. It was not until the nineteenth century, with the development of pathological anatomy, which began to understand its nature. In the twentieth century, advances such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and oncological surgery transformed the panorama, increasing the hope of those affected. Today, immunotherapy and precision medicine open new hopes.
However, beyond science, cancer remains a personal and collective battle. Prevention, access to treatments and support for patients and families are challenges that concern us all. With research and solidarity, helped by financing, we can change the history of the disease and move towards a future where cancer ceases to be a sentence. Pedro Marín Usón
