Bodybuilder Jodi Vance has died after suffering a fatal heart attack, her family said. She was 20 years old.
A post on Vance’s Instagram account written by family said, “From Jodi’s family and loved ones: for those that haven’t heard yet, Jodi passed away yesterday afternoon. Her heart stopped due to complications of severe dehydration.”
“Despite all efforts by the hospital, they were unable to revive her,” the family’s statement continued, remembering the 20-year-old bodybuilder as a “beautiful person inside and out” who will be “missed every day.”
Vance’s death was “sudden and unexpected,” her family said as they asked for “time to process this loss in peace.” They concluded by writing, “If anyone takes anything from this, please put your heath first.”

Vance’s trainer, Justin Mihaly, provided additional details in a video post on Instagram, noting that her mother, Jenny, had approved he share the information publicly. Mihaly explained that Vance “made a significant error that should not be taken lightly” and suspected she was taking “dangerous” substances that led to her dehydration.
“You’re welcome to direct your blame towards me if thats how you believe we can best honor Jodi,” Mihaly said, adding that he plans to share “more advocacy and action around this” topic in the future.
“Jodi used two extremely hazardous substances to improve her physique,” her trainer explained, “without my knowledge” or “approval.”
“The health had become quite concerning,” Mihaly said of Vance recently. “Many people who loved Jodi tried to get her to pull off the gas pedal a bit,” he added. “Her work ethic was actually second to nobody. It was so hard getting her to pull back.”
He noted that her vitals taken at the hospital suggested she had taken a substance that he had warned her would be dangerous. “We now know that it was being used,” Mihaly revealed.
Remembering Vance. Mihaly said the bodybuilder “was freaking loved” and spoke highly of her warmth and “intellect.”
