Surviving 100 Days in Modded Hardcore Fallout New Vegas Challenge

Welcome to my channel! I’m excited to share my journey as I dive back into the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout New Vegas, a game that has long been a staple in the gaming community. After nearly a decade away from the Nuclear Wasteland, I’m taking on a thrilling challenge: surviving 100 days in modded hardcore mode, specifically using the Frost mod, which enhances the survival elements and adds many layers of difficulty to the traditional gameplay.

Getting Started

Before embarking on this journey, I spent a considerable amount of time preparing. Frost transforms the Fallout New Vegas experience into something much harsher, replicating a true survival scenario where the environment and scarcity of resources can be just as dangerous as the ferocious enemies lurking around every corner. Therefore, choosing the right mods and understanding their implications is crucial.

To start, I recommend familiarizing yourself with the Frost mod. The mod not only reworks the game’s mechanics but also introduces an array of new features, including severe weather conditions, changed enemy placements, and a more unforgiving AI. This time around, it’s not just about the quests; survival is paramount.

Character Creation and Initial Strategies

Upon creating my character, I opted for a build that would emphasize survival skills. Investing in traits like “Great Mentats” and perks such as “Educated” allows for more efficient skill progression, especially when it comes to critical survival skills like Repair, Science, and Survival itself.

From day one, I focused on gathering resources. The Mojave Wasteland is a vast desert filled with ruins and hidden secrets, but those secrets often come with danger. Scavenging for food, water, and ammunition should be your first priority. Always keep an eye out for resources; items like cacti can supply water, while hunting small animals can provide necessary nourishment when other food sources are scarce.

Navigating the Wasteland

As I ventured out into the Mojave, I quickly learned to respect the environment. Travel routes that seemed safe on a normal playthrough become treacherous in Frost. Enemy encounters often catch me off-guard, and the difficulty of running into groups of raiders or mutated creatures escalates when my resources are low.

Utilizing stealth became a fundamental part of my strategy. The wasteland is littered with enemies, and avoidance is often a better choice than confrontation. Use the terrain to your advantage—climb hills or hide behind abandoned vehicles. Additionally, crafting items and preparing traps can offer opportunities to deal with threats without direct combat.

Weather and Survival Mechanics

One of the standout features of the Frost mod is the weather system. While exploring, drastically changing weather can pose serious challenges. Extreme cold can drain my health ration, so it’s imperative to craft warm clothing and find shelter when the storm sets in. This aspect adds a unique survival mechanic that requires constant planning and resource management.

Proper inventory management is key. As I collected weapons and supplies, I needed to balance weight versus necessity. Carrying too much can lead to exhaustion, making me an easier target for enemies or severe weather. I found myself often dropping excess to ensure I could move quickly when it mattered most.

The Journey Continues

As I’m currently around 50 days into this survival challenge, the excitement and unpredictability of the Mojave have made for unforgettable experiences. I’ve faced challenges I never expected and formed stories I’ll surely reminisce about long after the journey is over.
