In the crisis that shakes the country, it was not even in question to maintain that a prime minister is obliged to make vows of poverty. It is not at issue to argue that a prime minister, with the care and in the cases provided for by law, cannot have participation in companies or other sources of income. We do not need ascets to govern the country, nor do we need Savonarolas to pollute them. But that said, there are also statements that don't even need to be uttered. There are propositions that do to be verbalized. There are theses for which we will all agree. The idea that it is absolutely unacceptable that a prime minister can receive a private remuneration during the period in which he performs public functions is surely one of them.
