The Popular Party has caused a diplomatic crisis with the Dominican Republic after the publication of a video in which he referred to the Caribbean country as “the island of corruptions.” The material, created with artificial intelligence and with the aim of criticizing the Government of Pedro Sánchez, unleashed a forceful reaction of the Dominican Executive, which described the publication as a “free and unacceptable grievance.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic issued a statement in which it expressed its “stronger rejection” to the video of the PP. In the audiovisual piece the silhouette of the country and its national symbols was used, which the Dominican executive considered an “unacceptable instrumentalization” for internal political purposes of Spain.
“The instrumentalization of the country's image is unacceptable, denaturing its national symbols,” said the Dominican Foreign Ministry, also recalling that the nation has been internationally recognized by its advances in transparency and rule of law.

Given the outrage generated, the Popular Party made the decision to withdraw the video of its platforms and published a message in which it assured that “at no time has it tried to damage the image of the Dominican Republic”, highlighting the “long tradition of friendship and closeness” between the two countries.

Pedro Sánchez apologizes publicly
From Brussels, Pedro Sánchez distanced himself from the video and lamented the damage caused. “I feel a lot of shame and on behalf of Spain I feel deeply,” said the president of the Spanish Government, underlining the historic friendship between the two countries. “I apologize to the Dominican Republic and the Dominicans and Dominicans for this shameful video to which those who have published it will have to respond. Dominican Republic is an extraordinary country, a friendly country, with which we have cultural and historical ties. I am extremely embarrassed, ”he added.
Sanchez laments the damage caused and underlines the ties of friendship with the Dominican Republic
It is not the first time that the PP resorts to artificial intelligence to attack the PSOE and its partners, but this time the strategy has been expensive. The controversy with the Dominican Republic has not only generated an unnecessary diplomatic conflict, but has also forced Alberto Núñez Feijóo's party to immediately erase the publication and apologize.
