[Trending News] Ukraine: Trump reads to the Zelensky Letter Congress, thanks, and says he has “strong signs” that Putin “is ready for peace”

US President Donald Trump indicated on Tuesday that he received an “important letter” from the Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, expressing availability to resume negotiations for peace and to sign the mineral agreement.

In what was the first speech before Congress since returning to power, Donald Trump adopted a more conciliatory tone after the controversial meeting with Zelensky last Friday in Washington.

Trump said he received Zelensky's “important letter” on Tuesday and quoted his content: “My team and I are ready to work under President Trump's strong leadership for lasting peace.”

“We really value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. Regarding minerals and security agreement, Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time that is convenient.”leu Trump.

However, the content of Zelensky's alleged letter is the same as the Ukrainian leader wrote hours earlier in a publication on his social networks.

Trump also said he was grateful for the letter, adding that “simultaneously, he had serious discussions with Russia and received strong signs that Moscow is ready for peace.”

Trump and Zelensky were about to sign an agreement for the exploration of Ukrainian natural resources last Friday, but this signature was interrupted after a tense confrontation between the two leaders in the White House Oval Hall.

The theme of Ukraine emerged only 90 minutes after Trump's start.

In his statement, Donald Trump also suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin was allowed to invade Ukraine because of the way Joe Biden's government dealt with United States withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Trump harshly criticized the chaotic departure of Afghanistan conducted by the predecessor in August 2021, an episode that resulted in the death of 13 US military.

“When Putin saw what happened, I think he said, 'Well, maybe this is my opportunity,' so bad it was. It should never have happened. Rudely incompetent people,” Trump criticized, referring to Joe Biden's government.

“If we want to end the wars, we have to talk to both sides,” said the Republican tycoon, defending his rapprochement to Moscow.

Trump surprised Kiev and European allies recently announcing a 90 -minute telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin, eventually shaking the Western unit and Moscow's isolation strategy.

In recent days, Trump spoke to Russia and Ukraine, but refused to offer Kiev a security commitment and took to Ukraine several negotiating options for a peace agreement, excluding, for example, the integration of Kiev in NATO.

Trump spoke on Tuesday before Congress, a few hours after announcing the immediate suspension of aid to Ukraine.

The speech was accompanied by several protests of the Democrats, with some dressing in yellow and blue-the colors of the Ukrainian flag-to show support to the country after Trump's controversial posture with Zelensky.

After speaking for about an hour and 40 minutes, Trump began to stop the record of the first longest speech to a joint session of Congress or Union Discourse, according to the CNN television network.

Trump spoke more time than any other president, even having overcome the times recorded in his first term.

However, part of the Congress gallery was empty when Trump finished the speech, as the Democrats abandoned the room before the head of state concluded the statements.
