The month of Ramadán, which marks the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, will begin at the beginning of March 2025, as reported by the Ahmadía Muslim community in Spain. During this month, Muslims must comply with daily fasting from dawn to sunset, except for those who, for reasons of age, health, pregnancy or breastfeeding, are exempt from this practice.
Fasting in Islam, in addition to the abstention of food and drinks, also implies avoiding smoking and other restrictions. According to the Qur'an, the purpose of fasting is to allow believers to exalize God for his guide and be grateful. Likewise, fasting has a social component, since it sensitizes those who practice it about the situation of those who suffer hunger and poverty, promoting empathy and solidarity.
From the Ahmadía del Islam community they have stressed that this practice has spiritual and physical benefits. By reducing attention to basic needs, fasting allows Muslims to focus on their spiritual life and strengthen their connection with God. It also helps develop self -control, discipline and resistance to difficulties, values that Islam seeks to instill in its followers.
On the social level, fasting also serves to foster compassion and help to the most needy. By experiencing hunger and thirst, those who fast can better understand the situation of those who lack resources, which promotes the implementation of initiatives to support the most disadvantaged.
Another objective of the fasting, according to Islamic doctrine, is to achieve the state of “Taqwa”, which in the Qur'an is associated with security against suffering, protection against evil and spiritual elevation. The Ahmadía del Islam community emphasizes that fasting strengthens self -control and helps believers to part with negative habits, promoting a disciplined and oriented life towards good.
Ramadan is not only a time of deprivation, but also a period of reflection, personal growth and approach to God. The Ahmadía community recalls that this practice has an individual and collective dimension, since not only benefits those who carry it out, but also promotes the welfare of society as a whole.
