A Dedham man charged with attempted murder pleaded not guilty on Monday afternoon.
Zachary Fossett, 48, pleaded not guilty to four Class A felony charges in Penobscot County Superior Court. He was arrested Friday for allegedly shooting a man in February 2024 at the University of Maine at Augusta campus in Bangor.
A grand jury indicted Fossett in January on one count of attempted murder, two counts of elevated aggravated assault and one count of aggravated assault.
Fossett and the victim were living in their cars in a rarely used parking lot on Taft Street, at UMA’s Bangor campus, when the shooting happened Feb. 10, 2024.
Fossett called police to say he shot someone, police said previously. The victim, a 64-year-old man, had multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital.
The shooting was in self-defense, Fossett told police at the time.
He was granted a $10,000 cash bail that he has not posted. He is scheduled for a dispositional conference May 13.
