Talavera de la Reina
The Absolute Championship of Spain of Bádminton, the highest competition at the national level of this sport, will take place in Talavera de la Reina. A tournament that will bring together more than 150 athletes and that will bring to the city between 2,000 and 4,000 tourists, in the words of the Councilor for Youth and Sports, Antonio Núñez.
The competition will be played in the Municipal Sports Center First of May, in which the necessary reforms have been made to adapt it to this sports discipline.
During the three days that will last, the best players and Bádminton players in the country will congregate in the city of ceramics. Among them will be Pablo Abián, a gold medal at the 2015 Baku European Games. It is also working to have the presence of Carolina Marín, considered one of the best players in the history of Bádminton.
As Núñez explained, Carolina Marín could not compete, since he is recovering from the serious injury he suffered during the Olympic Games of Paris 2024. However, his visit would be a great incentive for the championship.
The mayor has also affirmed that it is an inclusive competition, since, in addition to the female and male absolute categories, it will have the discipline of Parabdminton, in which athletes with some type of disability compete.
Unlike other sports, this championship will take place in full in Talavera, which, in Núñez's words, will mean a great boost for the hospitality industry.
First Sports Gala City of Talavera
Núñez has taken advantage of the call to announce the first sport gala city of Talavera, an event in which the best individual athletes and teams in the city will be awarded.
The gala will be held at the Victoria Theater at the end of May. The categories of the awards are still to be defined, but Núñez has advanced that eleven awards will be awarded. Among these categories will be those of “Revelation athlete”, “Promise athlete” and “Best Veteran athlete”.
In the councilor's words, it will be a gala in which “the entire city sports community will have.”
