The combination of LeBron James and Luka Dončić is being dubbed a “cheat code” by NBA fans after the duo combined for 57 points in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 123-100 victory over the Denver Nuggets.
James finished with 25 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three blocks while shooting 11-of-19 from the field. In just his fourth game with the Lakers, Dončić recorded a double-double with 32 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
With the win, the Lakers secured their second straight victory and improved to 34-21 on the season, while the Nuggets fell to 37-20.
Their dominant performance generated plenty of buzz on social media.
In addition to the duo’s impressive night, Rui Hachimura finished with 21 points, while Austin Reaves added 23.
On the other side, Nikola Jokić struggled offensively despite posting a triple-double in 35 minutes. He finished with 12 points on 2-of-7 shooting, along with 13 rebounds and 10 assists.
The Lakers set the tone early, with James throwing down a dunk off a Dončić assist following a Hachimura bucket. Dončić finished the first quarter shooting 5-of-11.
Dončić closed out the half with a 24-foot step-back three-pointer, leading the way at halftime with 19 points, five rebounds and five assists, helping the Lakers take a 63-54 lead into the break.
Out of halftime, Denver responded with an 8-0 run to start the third quarter, cutting the deficit to three, but James ended the Lakers’ scoreless stretch with another dunk off a Dončić feed.
After a competitive third quarter, the Lakers locked down defensively in the fourth, holding the Nuggets to just 14 points to secure the win.
Los Angeles will face Dončić’s former team, the Dallas Mavericks, on Tuesday as Anthony Davis returns to Los Angeles.
