The family of Michael Schumacher has presented this Monday an appeal against the sentence to one of the defendants condemned in a plot of blackmail, claiming that the ruling was “too indulgent.”

The seven -time Formula 1 champion has not been seen in public from a ski accident in 2013 that left a serious brain injury.

On February 12, a German court declared a 53 -year -old man guilty of trying to extort the Schumacher family with 15 million euros threatening to publish Michael photos and videos.

Yilmaz, the leader of the operation, has been sentenced to three years in jail. His son Daniel, 30, was sentenced to six months in prison.

A security guard, identified as Markus, was declared guilty of “complicity” at the plot and received a two -year conditional sentence.

The Schumacher family has resorted to the sentence

The security guard copied the images and videos without permission while working for the family. Prosecutors claim that he sold the images for a sum of five figures and request a four -year prison sentence, the maximum possible.

In a statement issued on Monday, Schumacher's wife, Corinna, said that “we have appealed against what we consider a too indulgent sentence”, while describing the security guard as “the brain behind this matter.”

“What surprises me most is the enormous abuse of trust. I should receive a punishment for this that dissuared others to potentially do the same.”

In 2024, the family succeeded in a legal action against the German magazine of Celebrities Die Aktuelle, which had published an “interview” with the legend of the car generated by artificial intelligence.
