Drivers are being waned of a city centre gridlock as three cruise ships are in port and Saints play Bournemouth at home today.

Southampton City Council are warning drivers on social media to allow extra journey time if driving through the city today.

Three large cruise ships are currently docked in the city: Iona, Queen Mary 2 and Balmoral – with departing and arriving cruise passengers adding to traffic.

Each ship will depart later today, by which time traffic should begin to ease in the city centre.

Ivan Juric’s Southampton are set to face the Cherries at St Mary’s at 3pm this afternoon which will see the roads get busy.

Drivers are being asked to allow for extra journey time on the roads.

Traffic is set to be at its worst before and after the match kicks off.
