The NBA’s premier young talent will be on full display during the 2025 Castrol Rising Stars as part of NBA All-Star 2025 at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

Mirroring the All-Star Game mini-tournament that will take place Sunday, the Rising Stars tournament will consist of four seven-player teams. The 21 NBA players (10 rookies, 11 sophomores) will be drafted into three teams, while the fourth is composed of seven G League players selected by the league office.

The NBA player pool for the Rising Stars was announced Thursday and consists of notable players such as Bilal Coulibaly, Amen Thompson, Zach Edey and 2024 first-overall pick Zaccharie Risacher. The G League will be well represented, too, and will have plenty to prove at All-Star Weekend. Let’s take a look at the seven players who will serve on the G League team for the Rising Stars event.

Mac McClung – Osceola Magic (Orlando Magic)

G League regular-season stats: 23.9 pts, 6.2 ast, 4.2 reb, 0.6 stl, 33.8 min

McClung burst onto the NBA scene during All-Star Weekend in 2023. Not only was he the first G League player to participate in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, but he also won the event after scoring two perfect dunks in the final round to outlast Trey Murphy III. McClung successfully defended his Slam Dunk trophy in 2024 by defeating Jaylen Brown, and he will mimic the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL by going for the three-peat in this year’s contest.

After signing an Exhibit 10 deal with the Orlando Magic in early September, McClung did well enough during training camp and preseason to earn a two-way deal. His lone appearance for Orlando came Oct. 26 against the Grizzlies. Otherwise he’s spent most of the campaign in the G League.

Reed Sheppard – Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Houston Rockets)

NBA stats: 3.2 pts, 1.3 reb, 1.2 ast, 0.5 stl, 11.2 min

The only first-round pick on this list, Sheppard was selected by the Rockets with the No. 3 overall pick of the 2024 NBA Draft. He had a solid outing during the Summer League, and while he served in a regular rotational role off the bench for the first month of the regular season, he eventually saw his playing time dwindle.

Sheppard was assigned to the G League on Jan. 6, and the very next day he erupted for 49 points in the Valley Vipers’ loss to the Oklahoma City Blue. After two more outings with the Valley Vipers, Sheppard was brought back by the Rockets on Jan. 12 and has been with the parent team ever since.

Bryce McGowens – Rip City Remix (Portland Trail Blazers)

G League stats: 29.0 pts, 3.6 reb, 3.1 ast, 1.4 stl, 36.0 min

After averaging 16.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game during his freshman season in Nebraska, McGowens was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the No. 40 pick in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft. He appeared in 105 regular-season games (including 21 starts) over his first two seasons with the Hornets and averaged 5.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists over 15.9 minutes per game.

McGowens was cut by Charlotte on July 6, but he quickly caught on with Portland on a two-way deal just five days later. He’s spent most of his time in the G League, and he is the leading scorer of the regular season. Lately, McGowens has served in a deep reserve role for the Trail Blazers and has appeared in six games for Portland since Dec. 30.

JD Davison – Maine Celtics (Boston Celtics)

G League regular-season stats: 22.2 pts, 7.3 ast, 4.4 reb, 1.7 stl, 33.7 min.

Davison was the Boston Celtics’ lone selection in the 2022 NBA Draft when he was taken with the 53rd pick in the second round after spending one collegiate season with Alabama. He’s appeared in just 25 regular-season games over three seasons with the Celtics, but it’s been in the G League with Maine where he has truly shined.

In his third season playing for Maine, Davison leads the team in assists while ranking second in points per game. This season, he became Maine’s all-time leader across points, assists, steals and games played. Davison will join Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown as the Celtics organization’s three representatives at All-Star 2025.

Leonard Miller – Iowa Wolves (Minnesota Timberwolves)

G League Tip-Off Tournament stats: 24.4 pts, 11.8 reb, 3.3 ast, 1.2 blk, 0.9 stl, 37.9 min

Miller signed with the NBA G League Ignite in September of 2022 and averaged 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds across 24 games (including 19 starts). He was selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft but was later traded to the Timberwolves in exchange for two second-round picks. Miller has appeared in 22 regular-season games since being drafted.

Miller hasn’t played in the G League since Dec. 21 and has appeared in just five games for the Timberwolves since. However, his selection to the Rising Stars game has mostly to do with his performance in the 2024-25 G League Tip-Off Tournament with the Iowa Wolves when he averaged 24.4 points and 11.8 rebounds per game while shooting 50.9% from the field.

Pat Spencer – Santa Cruz Warriors (Golden State Warriors)

NBA stats: 2.4 pts, 1.5 ast, 1.3 reb, 6.8 min

Spencer spent most of the 2023-24 season in the G League and averaged 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.1 steals over 27.5 minutes per game. He earned a two-way deal with Golden State in February 2024 and has kept his place in the organization for the 2024-25 campaign.

Spencer has bounced back and forth between the G League and NBA this season, but he has appeared in nine games for Golden State since Dec. 30. Over that span he has averaged 3.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists over 8.8 minutes per game.

Dink Pate – Mexico City Capitanes

G League stats: 9.5 pts, 4.2 reb, 1.5 ast, 0.8 stl, 22.1 min

Rather than take the college route, Pate went pro straight out of high school. He signed with the NBA G League Ignite for the 2023-24 season, and in the process, he beat out Scoot Henderson to become the youngest player to sign with the development team at just 17 years old. After the Ignite shuttered, Pate signed with the Mexico City Capitanes. When he turns 19 in March, he will be eligible for the 2025 NBA Draft.
